Dead Battery in Your Car?
Do you have a dead battery in your car? Are you at the point where you have no idea what to do in order to get your car to start? If so, we’ve got some tips to help you out so you can get on with gettin’ on! We hope at least one of these tricks will get then job done. Check Your Battery
First and foremost, you’re going to want to check the condition of your dead battery. If it’s old and/or corroded, it may just be time for a new one. Take a look at the battery terminals and see if they’re covered in a white, powdery substance. If so, you’ll need to clean them off before doing anything else.
To do this, simply disconnect the negative terminal (marked with a “-“) and then clean the post and terminal end with a wire brush. Once you’re done, reconnect the negative terminal and move on to the positive one. You can test whether or not your battery is dead by using a voltmeter or digital multimeter.
If the reading is 12.6 volts or higher, your battery has enough charge for starting your car. If it reads 12.4 volts or lower, it needs to be recharged or replaced.
Jump-Start Your Car
If your battery is dead, you may be able to jump-start it using another car with a working battery. This process involves connecting the dead battery to the working one using jumper cables. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully in order to avoid any accidents. If you have no experience boosting a vehicle, it’s best to ask someone who knows what they’re doing to help you out. This way everyone can stay safe.
Push-Start Your Car
If you’re really in a bind and there’s no one around to help jump-start your vehicle, you may be able to push-start it instead. This only works if your car has a manual transmission, so keep that in mind before trying this method.
To push-start your car, turn off all electronics and put your keys in the ignition. Next, put your car in second gear and push it until it reaches about 15 miles per hour. As you let off the clutch, quickly turn on the ignition. If done correctly, your car should start right up.
Keep in mind, sometimes push starting your car is going to be extremely difficult depending on the slope of the road and what your landscape is looking like.
